In this charming novel by Emery Lee, Noah will have to choose between following his own rules for love or discovering that the most romantic endings are the ones that go off script.
This is another 'nothing amazing, nothing awful' review, I'm afraid. I enjoyed the story; it's a nice frothy, not too serious story about a teen looking for love in the wrong place before finding it in the right place.
Here are your SPOILERS; I found it hard to believe that out of the whole US, MC ran into someone he knew from school (but didn't recognize, despite being one year behind the most infamous student ever to attend their school ever? I know, out of context, but still.) I know it was to add to the 'you gave me validation' theme running through the novel, but really. I would have been more ok with it if MC had met someone with a similar story; there could still have been 'I knew a student like that, I found the strength to stand up for myself by following in their footprints' conversation. Just my opinion, of course!
I liked how hard Noah's brother tried to get things right, and I loved how hard Noah fought to show trans people that they are valid and they can get happy endings. Those are really fabulous goals and I applaud his efforts (everything there came together a bit neatly at the end, though!)
Overall I liked it, glad I read it, hope it does really well, but I didn't love it and I may not read it again.
