Isadora has a wobbly tooth! Vampires frame their fangs, but fairies leave teeth for the tooth fairy. Isadora isn't sure what to do until one night she meets a magical mouse called Mignonette.
With Mignonette's help, Isadora will make a new tradition. One that is totally unique, just like her!
Isadora often has trouble reconciling the two halves of her family - her mother's fairy traditions and her father's vampire ones - and in this book, a new one appears. Vampires always save their baby fangs and frame them on the wall. Fairies always give their first teeth to the tooth fairy to build her palace with. Isadora can't decide which to do, especially when she realises that the fairy sent to collect her fang is on her very first mission. And what about that scary vampire dentist her father wants her to visit? Isadora can't decide what's best to do.
The Isadora Moon series is really popular, and this book is a great example of why. Isadora is just a normal little girl, dealing with all the things normal girls deal with; in this case, fear of the dentist and of disappointing one parent by going along with the other. The solutions are clever, but obvious enough for kids to get before Isadora and feel good about.
I love the illustrations; they add a lovely touch of humour to the story and there's plenty to pick apart and come back to and discuss. (Also, I badly want a dolls house that has saucepans in the kitchen cupboards and clothes in the wardrobe!)
The dentist part of the story is lovely and reassuring; as a fully grown adult, more or less, I'm not too fond of the dentist myself, so anything that helps kids feel better about it is great in my book. This is a lovely way to show kids that sometimes things feel scarier than they really are. A great lesson in a fantastic story in a brilliant series.
I received a free copy of this book and chose to write an honest review.
