The Crocodile who came for Dinner by Steve Smallman and Joelle Dreidemy

Hotpot and Wolf have found an egg. A CROCODILE egg! Is the crocodile a fearsome, ferocious beast? No! He’s snuggly, cuddly and looking for some friends.

I love The Lamb Who Came For Dinner. It's one of my favourite picture books. I was delighted to see that this new book continues the tradition. Hotpot the lamb and Wolf the wolf find an egg while out walking. Despite Wolf's wishes for an omelette (what does he eat, nowadays?) they take it home and it hatches into a baby crocodile.

Then Omelette scrambled up and snuggled against Wolf's chest.
And Wolf, who had never been cuddled by an Omelette before, thought that maybe everything would be ok.

It's not quite, of course, there's some more adventures to go through, including the other animals' fear of this new animal living among them. The illustrations are fabulous; Wolf looks straight at us a few times, Badger is clearly a snooty creature, and the colours are lovely, soft and gentle. There's a lovely message, but it's not too heavy handed. This is a really lovely read and I'll be recommending it to everyone.

I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
