Sofia isn't so sure about Fright Night. When she suggested it to her friends, she was only thinking of it as an excuse to get closer to Dylan. Now that it's happening, she's worried that spending the night in a deserted forest is a bad idea.
But it's totally safe--there's even a safe word if things get too intense. And they do. Sofia and her friends are forced to face their greatest fears, and suddenly? It's too late to turn back.
This is the second Underlined written by Maren I've read recently, and I have to say this one is far superior to the other. Escape Room felt too rushed, with no room for us to get to know the characters. This is better. Although I was very surprised when our fourth narrator arrived out of nowhere with no warning, I adapted quickly, and when the connection was revealed later it genuinely made sense. (I note that both of her stories have featured surprise siblings, though!)
I guessed what was going on with Dylan a little way in, but that didn't make the flashbacks any less heartbreaking. It's an awful condition and I'm glad he was able to come through it with so little damage. I also felt a little bit sympathetic towards our villains, as I think a lot of readers will. Not very sympathetic; they are still the bad guys. But a little bit.
This is a great, quick read for a teen looking for a bit of horror.
