The Mystery of the Golden Pyramid by Adela Norean and Aaron Cushley

A talking dog. A jewelled casket. A quest for stolen treasure . . . Join Sophie on a magical Egyptian adventure. Lift the flaps and peep through the die-cuts to help her save King Nebra and solve the mystery of the golden pyramid.

A lift-the-flap, action-packed adventure story!
Sophie finds a talking dog in her bedroom. The dog asks for her help to recover some ancient treasures to help a pharaoh, her ancestor, to rest easily. Sophie agrees and the two friends head off on a magical adventure.
This is a fabulous book for a newly confident reader looking for some fun. The story is simple enough; the real star here is the illustrations. Sophie and the dog wind their way across pages, through passages, into cut outs and out on the next page. It's all so cleverly done; I love the statues who are having a snack, until the flap turns and it's revealed they dropped it on the floor.
Children will love following along and looking at the pictures. There's loads to discuss with detailed backgrounds and illustrations of pyramids and Egyptian statues and sarcophagi. (Be aware, there's one page where you read across the spread instead of one page and then the other; it caught me out for a second, but luckily I was only reading to myself!)
This is a lovely read, with a hook at the end for more adventures in the series, and kids will really enjoy it.

I received a free copy of this book and am giving an honest review.
