Join Flora and Fauna, the world’s GREATEST explorers, as they hang up their ice picks, put down their rucksacks and enjoy a well-deserved holiday. When the sea turtles stop showing up to lay their eggs in the golden sands, however, Flora and Fauna are called into action. They must sail to the reef to investigate, but it looks like an ENORMOUS storm is brewing…With flaps and paper effects throughout, who knows what WILD creatures they’ll find along the way.
Jonny Marx has a wonderful way of making complicated ideas simple and interesting for children. We've really enjoyed his history books, and now he's turned his attention to ecology. This one is a little more story like than his last ones, following two conservationists (and their son) as they try to find out why turtles haven't come to the beach to lay their eggs this year.
The flaps, cut outs and information panels make this a really fun, interactive read. The illustrations are beautiful, and there's loads to look at and discuss - the mark of a great picture book! There's a happy ending, and some discussion points about turtles and things we can all do to help, even up here where the turtles don't tend to come.
This is a great book for an older toddler, with pictures that will captivate them and fantastic information. A wonderful match.
I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
