An Alphabet of Animals by Harriet Evans and Linda Tordoff

Which animals are hiding behind the alphabet in this stylish lift-the-flap book? Uncover a colourful collection of creatures from snappy alligator to happy zebra as your little one learns their ABC!

What a clever idea this book is! The flaps, when lifted, are integral to the revealed animal; so the angular A becomes the body of the alligator. It's such a clever idea, I couldn't believe it was the first time I've seen it used! It must have taken so much planning and preparing and testing to get it right.

The pages and flaps are a lovely sturdy card that will stand up well to handling by small children. The animals aren't photo realistic, but they're very clearly animals, drawn in soft colours and gentle lines. It's great that some of the animals are more unusual, too...how often do you see a narwhal, a quail or a (sea) urchin in this kind of book? And my test child often reaches for this one over others, which is a great sign!

This is a fantastic, really clever book, one that we'll be coming back to over and over again. Brilliant.

An Alphabet of Animals publishes on the 13th May 2021. I received a free copy and am writing an honest review.
