Wee Donkey's Treasure Hunt by Erika McGann and Gerry Daly

A wee donkey sat in the shade of a tree.
'If you had one wish, Grandad, what would it be?'
'I'd fix this old back and these wobbly knees,
and go see the sights that are out there to see.'

The wee donkey thought, 'I can't turn back the years,
but I can get Grandad some great souvenirs.'
She slipped through the gate with a small wooden cart,
in search of some gifts that would warm Grandad's heart.

The wee donkey heads across Ireland, where she "borrows" the Jeanie Johnston ship from the Liffey, the round tower from Glendalough, kisses from the Blarney Stone and more, to bring to her grandad.
But you can't go taking national treasures like that, particularly when the police find out! A warm and entertaining picture book from the team who brought you Where Are You, Puffling?

The latest in O'Brien's Around the Country books - O'Brien, that's my name for them, you know where to find me if you want to use it šŸ˜- focuses on some of Ireland's cultural treasures. The places aren't really as important except as where the treasures are. Nowhere is even named in the text; you'd have to know them to know them.

The illustrations are lovely, a little cartoony but still enough to look real. Gerry has created a beautifully multi cultural Ireland, with people of all ages, colours and faiths cheering on Wee Donkey as she goes about her mission.

The story itself is lovely, with Wee Donkey determined to cheer up her Grandad, some very helpful GardaĆ and a heartwarming ending. This book is going to do very well this Christmas, and well it should. It's simply beautiful.

We wish this book a Happy #Bookbirthday as it's publishing today!
