The Humans by Jonny Marx and Charlie Davis

This book showcases the greatest achievements of ancient civilisations, peoples and iconic figures from history. From the Nubians to the Native Americans, and the Akkadians to the Aztecs, our predecessors have pioneered a plethora of wonderful and wacky inventions, technologies and practices. They've constructed monumental buildings and sprawling cities, created languages, modes of transport, art, medicines, music, stories, myths and more.

Let's delve into the past and discover what humankind accomplished in the centuries and millennia since the first civilisations were formed…

This cover is amazing. It doesn't show up in the picture, but parts of it are shiny and parts are textured, and its's just beautiful.

The book itself is amazing, too. Thick paper, fantastic illustrations, interesting facts - for instance, did you know that Sudan has more pyramids than Egypt? Me neither!

The book covers ancient peoples from most of the world, explaining when they lived there, what they accomplished, and listing some important or famous people. The most recent culture covered is probably the Vikings, and most are much older than that. Illustrations of cultural art and buildings accompany the text, which is carefully pitched, not too complicated or long.

I don't always include illustrations, but I think this book really needs to be seen;
Charlie Davis, the illustrator, has done an amazing job with this book. It's fun, it's inviting, and I very much hope it's going to sell really well. It deserves it.

The Humans publishes on the 3rd September, 2020.
