Serena Mills should be at her wedding.
Instead, she’s eating an ice cream sundae and drinking an obscenely large glass of wine in a Harvester off the M25.
Everyone thinks she’s gone mad. She’s jilted the man everyone told her she was ‘so lucky’ to find.
But Serena wants to find love. A love she deserves – not one she should just feel grateful for.
So, she escapes to the big city and sets herself a challenge:
52 weeks.
52 dates.
52 chances to find love.
Easy, right?
I like a romcom that isn't just a romcom, that has some other angle to it as well. It's tough to find! I seem to be in the minority on it. But in this, Bethany has crafted a story about not only finding love, but finding love for yourself as well. Serena starts out - not beaten down, exactly, but accepting her life as 'good enough'. She's happy enough, they're comfortable enough, it's all very enough. By the end, she has managed to realise that she is amazing and deserves so much better than good enough, a lesson I think we could all stand to learn!
I'm not really crafty but I loved the descriptions of Serena's sewing and shopping for supplies - Bethany has made it seem really exotic, somehow, although it's a perfectly normal hobby for a lot of people. Her clothes sound amazing, I wish I could buy some!
Serena's friends are amazing as well. Female friendships are often difficult in novels, but she has two amazing, ride or die friends who are exactly what she needs when she needs them. Just fabulous. It's wonderful to see friends who lift each other up instead of trying to get ahead by putting each other down. The world needs more people like that!
This is a great read I really enjoyed and I highly recommend it.
BE AWARE there is a certain amount of sex that's quite openly described.
