Cat Tarot by Megan Lynn Kott

This entertaining modern twist to the classic tarot combines authenticity with a feline sense of humor in a complete deck for experienced and new readers alike, including 78 tarot cards and a guidebook on how to get the most out of the cat's wisdom.

Who doesn't love cats and tarot? Megan has cleverly combined them in this fun, lighthearted tarot deck.

The cards are housed in a sturdy, cardboard box with a lift off lid. A fantastic detail; cats are printed on the inner box on each end, so that when the box is closed, the cat is peering through the cut out. It's a perfect example of the humour in this deck.

The back of the deck features this design. It's technically not reversible, as the images don't line up quite right, but you'd have to study them very closely to catch the difference, so I think this deck is suitable for those who don't want to know what's reversed as they deal. The cards shuffle easily and show no signs of wear or damage yet.

Here's a selection of the majors. While this does follow the Rider Waite tradition, Megan has taken the time to really apply cat behaviour to them. This might be one of my favourite Hermit cards ever. The booklet points out all kinds of details in the images, like the Eye of Osiris on the Hermit's bag representing wisdom.

Here's a selection of Minors from each suit, again very much focusing on cat behaviour. I really can't pick a favourite of these; they're all so adorable. I do have a soft spot for poor Ten of Swords, stuck on that screen door, though!

You may have noticed that the Minors don't have names or the usual symbols. That's the aspect of this deck that has taken me the longest to get used, and still trips me up occasionally if I'm honest. Megan has chosen to represent the suits in different ways; Wands are represented by toys and by the symbol that looks like a circle with an angled line through it. Swords are claws or teeth and the triangle symbol. Pentacles are food or treats and the circle, and cups are water and the semi circle. Once you get the hang of it it's not too bad, but it may take a bit!

The book of words features two pages for the Majors, one a full reproduction of the card and the other a description and both upright and reversed meanings. The Minors have a smaller reproduction, the description and meanings. They're really great and easy to follow. The Court cards are mostly people rather than situations. The book also features some general tips and a couple of spreads.
