Hi guys! J and I both read this one, so you get an (increasingly rare) double review! Yay!
B: It's nice to fake see you too!
J: My overall impression? I'm horrified that we live in a world where this story is not unbelievable. I can absolutely believe that there are places and people who would do this.
B: I agree with that, but I also don't believe that so many people could keep it a secret for that long and pretend to be friends with the two. If they genuinely believed what they claim to about our MCs, I don't think they could have kept quiet and been their friends for so long without even a hint.
J: It does seem very complicated, it's true. But you love complicated! You're the biggest fan of STAGS I know.
B: True, I am. This still feels unlikely to me, but I'll put it aside for now. Let's talk characters.
J: Let's. I liked our characters. I admit the book messed me up so bad I suspected everyone at different times, but I liked the two main characters and a few of the side people. No spoilers!
B: No, no spoilers. I liked them both, even though Chi was designed to be unlikable. Like, we're supposed to hate her, that's deliberate. It was well done.
J: Last question: would you read more by this author?
B: Definitely, yes. I think she's going to be an author to look out for. You?
J: Almost definitely. I never like to say 'definitely' about anything, but I can't see any reason I wouldn't read her again.
B: A wise policy. When I find out about her next book, I'll let you know.
J: And I will do likewise. Nice to fake see you!
B: Lovely to fake see you!
