The Island by CL Taylor

Lost meets The Hunger Games in the thrilling new young adult novel from C.L. Taylor, the Sunday Times and million-copy bestselling author.

Welcome to The Island.
Where your worst fears are about to come true…

It was supposed to be the perfect holiday: a week-long trip for six teenage friends on a remote tropical island.

But when their guide dies of a stroke leaving them stranded, the trip of a lifetime quickly turns into a nightmare.

Because someone on the island knows each of the group’s worst fears. And one by one, they’re coming true.

Seven days in paradise. A deadly secret.

Who will make it off the island alive?

For anyone who remembers Point Horror, this novel will seem familiar. (For those who don't; you make me feel old, and also think fast paced stories, with mostly psychological horror.)

It's hard to discuss this novel without giving away the twist, which I don't want to do - in some novels it doesn't matter or it's really obvious, but this one snuck up on me, I only figured it out just before the characters did. It's really well written.

As with many ensemble novels, some characters are clearer than others. In this one I felt that Meg faded into the background the most (a subtle joke in her name, maybe?)  but she did get a few moments to shine. I liked all the characters, actually, and that doesn't always happen.

This is a great read for any thriller fans out there, a really tense read.

The Island publishes on the 21st January, 2021. These images are both from the UK versions, paperback on top and Kindle cover below.
