As far as Phoebe Davies is concerned, love is to be avoided at all costs. Why would you spend your life worrying about something that turns you into a complete moron? If her best friend Polly is anything to go by, the first sniff of a relationship makes you forget about your friends (like, hello?), get completely obsessed with sex (yawn) and bang on constantly about a person who definitely isn't as great as you think they are.
So Phoebe isn't going to fall in love, ever.
But then she meets Emma . . .
This is a cute love story, featuring a very authentic modern teenager.
Written in diary format, this covers an eventful six months in Phoebe's life. At first, given some of the things she says and thinks, I thought we were heading for a realisation of asexuality. However, she's just a nervous teen with a crush.
The writing style is light and fun. Although I don't agree with everything Phoebe did, her reasons are always clear and she's always consistent. The ending made me wonder if there might be another book planned for this series - I hope so! I'd love to read more of these characters.
All in all a great read, one I heartily recommend.
