Wild City by Ashwin Chacko

The city is wild, The city is free
The city has wonderful things to see …

Meet Lily and Tim, our brave adventurers.
When they go into the city, with a Snap! a Clap! and a Zap! they can make the boring … amazing!

Inspired to encourage children to ignore their devices and explore their outside environment, a fun and accessible story about finding the joy and wonder in the world around us. With bright, colourful artwork reminiscent of urban street art.

One of my favourite things about O'Brien as a publisher is that they don't just stick with the same old things; they're willing to try new things. When I started working in children's books, mumblemumble years ago, a picture book illustrated in this cool, urban graffiti style would have been unthinkable.

And I'm sorry for that me and the kids I couldn't sell it to, because this book is brilliant. Lily and Tim use their imaginations to make a trip into Dublin fun...the Luas becomes a submarine, O'Connell Street is a Jurassic swamp, and so on...and it's all illustrated in bright, blocky images that shine out of the pages. I loved looking through and picking out little details, like a certain supermarket's logo in the background or the troll above a bridge!

Kids will love this bright, funky (are we allowed to say funky nowadays?) funny book, and parents will love having them use their imaginations in real life afterwards!

The Wild City publishes on the 17th of April, 2023. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
