Tamsin Lark is a Hollower - breaking into the ancient crypts of dark sorceresses in search of the treasures inside.
Now, rumours are swirling about a powerful ring from Arthurian legend, a ring that could free her brother, Cabell from a curse. But they aren't the only ones who covet it ...
As word spreads, greedy Hollowers start circling, and many would kill to have the ring for themselves. Tamsin is forced into an alliance with her rival Emrys, the last person she wants to rely on. Together, they dive headfirst into a vipers' nest of dark magic, and expose a deadly secret with the power to awaken ghosts of the past and shatter her last hope of saving her brother . . .
This is one of those books that, while there's nothing really wrong with it, I just didn't click with it.
This is a long book, 470 pages or so in my proof, and I didn't feel like anything was explained properly. Alexandra has clearly thought carefully about the world she's building, but I feel like maybe she knew it so well she forgot what we needed to have explained to us.
However the descriptions are great, there are some fantastic action scenes, and I liked the characters. So, mixed bag really! I think it'll do well and I hope it does, but it wasn't for me sadly.
Edit: I have now seen the physical book and it's gorgeous! Hard cover with a slipcase, the book itself is dark blue with silver decorations, there's a map, at the back of the book there's an index with useful information...it's a really lovely object physically. Worth getting for the shelf!
Silver in the Bone publishes on the 4th of April, 2023. I received a free copy and am giving an honest opinion.
