Annie loves helping out in her moms' bookshop. But she knows something is troubling her older sibling, and her moms are worried too. Even the bookshop is upset.
Ok, as a bookseller, I love the idea behind this; our narrator, Annie, is the younger daughter of a family who run a bookshop. Each morning, when they open the store, there's a pile of books waiting on the counter; during the day, they are always claimed by customers who weren't sure what they wanted, but the perfect book is in the pile. It's such an amazing idea! There's nothing like the moment when you find the perfect book for a customer, and this is a wonderful celebration of that fact.
It's also a celebration of identity, of learning about your place in the world and fitting into it, and it's amazing. It's not a long story, but it covers a lot of things - anxiety is another thing dealt with in surprising depth for such a short read.
I love this. I adore the language, the idea, IN HOLD OUT (that makes sense when you read, I promise!) I'm definitely going to be recommending this one highly!
