Murphy's Law by Muireann Ní Chíobhaín and Paul Nugent

Meet Murphy ... the unluckiest dog in Ireland!

Whatever could go wrong, would always go wrong,

when I was around.

Wherever I set a paw,

bad luck was always sure to follow.

We called it, 'Murphy's law'!

A picture book for young readers about an accident-prone dog whose tail is always getting him in trouble.

O'Brien have edged away, in recent days, from their books set all around Ireland to show more every day stories. Murphy's Law is set in any old Irish town with a perfectly normal young Irish girl and her dog (possibly a Wolfhound?) doing perfectly normal things.

I love all the little details in the pictures (The house's name! The sheep up a tree! The brand names in the store [but points off for only stocking cheese and onion crisps, apparently]!) I'm definitely missing things and I look forward to reading it again (and again and again, knowing my niece) and seeing new things in the illustrations.

The story is also very sweet. Pitching it as Murphy's point of view was a stroke of genuis, and I really enjoyed it.

I look forward to meeting Muireann on Tramore beach some day!

Murphy's Law is available now. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
