Billy Conker's Nature-Spotting Adventure by Conor Busuttil

Hi, I’m Billy Conker!

I love to explore our natural world and discover all the amazing creatures living there, from snails and bees in my back garden to polar bears and great blue whales on the other side of the planet.

Now I need your help! We’re on a mission to find wild animals in their natural habitats. It won’t be easy: some are already struggling – or even endangered – and these are the hardest to spot.

Are you ready? Come on, then! Follow me and let’s get started …

Billy Conker is a young conservationist. He loves visiting different places around the world, discovering all the amazing animals and plants there and finding out how he can help them. Join Billy as he explores ponds and forests, oceans and coral reefs, deserts, prairies, cities and more!

Before I start the review proper, I would like it noted that I found all the endangered animals all on my own, and my four year old niece didn't help me or anything.

O'Brien have published a few books illustrated by Conor now, but this might be his best yet. Carefully researched to be accurate, the book takes us through various landscapes, focusing on the animals and plants found there. Each two page spread gives us ten animals to search for in the illustration, plus an endangered animal which is usually very well hidden. There are a few facts about each landscape as well, and Billy is dressed appropriately for the area.

Conor doesn't shy away from the human effect on landscapes; spreads have rubbish scattered about, a fish in the coral reef is tangled in a fourpack ring and there are old oil cans by the desert oasis. However, he balances this at the end with ideas and tips for things we can do to help, and in the happy looking spread set in a city and showing urban animals.

I would love to see Billy continue his adventures - there are plenty more animals we can all look for, and plenty of places they could be. This is a fantastic choice if your child is a little young yet for Where's Wally, as it's a similar kind of concept but much less frenetic.

I'm loving this book and I can't wait to share it with other people.

Billy Conker's Nature Spotting Adventure publishes on the 10th of October, 2022. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
