2023 Nature Month-By-Month: A Children’s Almanac By Anna Wilson & Elly Jahnz

Take an inspirational journey through the seasons with this updated edition of Nature Month-by-Month: A Children’s Almanac.

Beautifully illustrated by Elly Jahnz and written by nature-lover and wild swimmer Anna Wilson, this fantastic, fully illustrated guide to 2023 includes nature spotter guides, indoor and outdoor craft and activity ideas, seasonal recipes and celebrations of religious festivals and special events.

A wonderful gift to treasure and explore over the coming year, this gorgeous almanac, which has been updated with one third new material and revised design throughout, will encourage young readers to connect with nature and the world around them.

I didn't see the 2022 version of this, so I can't say what differences there are between them. I can say that this version is wonderful. Each month has a variety of information, with a sampling from History, Celebrations, Star signs and birth stones, activities, things to look out for in the wild and many more. Not every month has everything - my birth month doesn't have the birth stone, sadly, but there's plenty more to enjoy here. At the end of the book there's a calendar for the year with moon stages, space for your own notes on things you've seen during the year, a glossary and an index to help you find that one thing you saw earlier and you know it's there and you just can't find it!

The contents are amazing. I've had a read through, but I can't wait to go back through in more detail as the year goes by. It's hard to pick a favourite bit, but I think it might be the various recipes - they look amazing and I'm looking forward to trying a few! I love the blackberry ink, too, and some of the other DIY ideas. The chatty, light style is brilliant, not lingering too long on any topic so we don't get bored but managing to get all the important information across.

The illustrations are amazing, slightly cartoony without looking strange, bright and cheerful even in the duller months, perfectly highlighting the text without taking away from it. I'd be happy just to go through and study the images without reading anything.

This is a fantastic book that I think every child will get something from. Highly recommended.

2023 Nature Month by Month publishes on the 6th of October, 2022. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
