Finn's First Song by Gerry Daly

Squeeeak ... Thwop ... Thwop ... Dwoooooerrrp!

Dad sings his magical whale songs to Mum and baby Finn, far, far away across the huge ocean.

When Finn gets lost, can the other sea creatures help him to send a message of his own?

What a gorgeous book. Gerry's first two books were written by other authors, but this one is all his own work, and it shows. The story is cute, but the real star is the colourful illustrations, showing off a wide variety of sea life in vivid colour. Sadly, and true to life, there's also some sea floor rubbish in a couple of the pictures, but the majority of the spreads are bright and cheerful. (I also noticed a cameo near the end!)

This book really does have it all, even sneaking in a quick lesson on the ways different sea creatures communicate. Fabulous. I love it.

Finn's First Song publishes on the 22nd of February, 2021.
