Illustrator Chris Judge (The Lonely Beast, Danger is Everywhere) has brought his bizarre sense of humor to imagine them for us all.
What a gorgeous little book. I had great fun guessing what everything is meant to be. Some are easy - bumbum bee or shark knife - and some are a bit tougher. I'm not ashamed to admit that I didn't get blazer bean, because I got stuck on 'bean' rather than trying to think of other words that rhymed. Well, I'm only a little ashamed to admit it. (It's 'laser beam' if you're curious.)
Chris's illustrations are brilliant, with all the tiny characters having their own personality. I especially liked 'Michaelwave' and 'roller toaster' but they're all wonderful! Kids will love studying them and trying to guess the words. It's also a great present for adults - it could help you decipher conversation after a trip to the pub! (When pub trips are possible again, of course.)
This is a lovely, sweet, funny book, a great one to dip in and out of. Volume two next year, Chris?
