I haven’t read the first book, so I went in a bit behind, but the plot is still easy to follow. I was expecting a maze-y, monster-filled adventure with a mix of Greek myth, puzzles, and sibling dynamics, and that’s exactly what I got.
✶ POST-READING ✶
As I thought… Netta is smart, brave, and fully capable of leading her own adventure. The world-building is vivid, with monsters, riddles, and maze-like structures giving a tangible sense of danger and wonder.
It surprised me by… how twisty Remy’s subplot is. Forgetfulness, memory gaps, and misdirection make him a perfect foil to Netta, and it adds depth without slowing the pace. Kids will enjoy trying to guess what he remembers (or doesn’t).
✦ RECOMMENDATIONS ✦
Book Recommendation: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan - especially for kids just starting to get into myth-heavy MG adventures.
TV or Movie Recommendation: Hercules: The Animated Series - whimsical, adventurous, and myth-inspired.
✧ VIBE CHECK ✧
Colour palette: stormy greys, shimmering golds, deep blues
Soundtrack: mysterious, adventurous, riddles in the air
Season: autumn - the perfect mix of mystery and energy
Mood: clever, daring, curious
Scent: old stone, wet leaves, and parchment
🎵 Featured Song: “Dreams of the Labyrinth” (imagine an energetic, cinematic, orchestral folk track)
🎶 Vibe Album: Mythic Adventures (anything orchestral + ethereal, orchestral folk mixed with a little suspense)
🎧 Artist Recommendation: Lindsey Stirling or Two Steps From Hell - cinematic, magical, maze-like energy
★ TAROT CARD PULLED ★
The Moon. For Remy, this card perfectly reflects his confusion, memory gaps, and the disorientation he experiences in the Maze of Memory. The Moon shows us that not everything is clear, that illusions and missteps are possible, and that trusting instincts is essential - just like Remy must do to reconnect with himself and his sister.
Final Thoughts
A clever, fast-paced middle grade adventure, full of twists, riddles, and mythical surprises. Even without reading the first book, the story is enjoyable, but having read it might make some references land more fully. Fans of myth, clever puzzles, and sibling-centric adventures will be absolutely hooked.
Netta Becker and the Missing Memory Maze publishes on the 5th March, 2026. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
