✦ BLURB ✦
✶ PRE-READING ✶
I'm always interested in dystopian stories, especially if they take place in a bunker! The mention of Biblical prophecies intrigued me, and I wanted to see if I could guess at the twists (I didn't.)
✶ POST-READING ✶
As I thought... The bunkers are well thought out, and unlike a lot of these stories it isn't a sharp fall like a war or power outage; humanity just gently slid down into anarchy and nothingness.
It surprised me by... Some of the language was rather more poetic than I would have expected for a story of this type, but once I got used to the style I quite enjoyed it. It's unusual, but fun!
✦ RECOMMENDATIONS ✦
Book Recommendation: The Edge of Life. Another novel about trying to reach a bunker, with a rather more immediate catastrophe to deal with.
TV or Movie Recommendation: The 100 – fits the slow-devolution-of-society, tension-filled group dynamics, and moral choices under pressure vibe.
✦ MUSIC PAIRING ✦
Because sometimes, the heart of a story plays out like a song.
šµ Featured Song: Waiting for a Miracle – Leonard Cohen. Poetic, reflective, and subtly hopeful - matches Phoebe’s contemplative journey.
š¶ Vibe Album: Ghost Stories – Coldplay. Atmospheric, ethereal, and layered with quiet tension and hope.
š§ Artist Recommendation: Agnes Obel. Minimalist, haunting, and meditative, perfect for navigating mysterious prophecies and quiet suspense.
✧ VIBE CHECK ✧
A colour palette: Ash grey, thin sun yellow and the tiniest hint of blue
A soundtrack: Soft, mostly muted, with a hopeful tone.
A season: Early spring - still cold but bright with promise.
A mood: Passive, concerned.
A scent: Dusty, wet stone, metallic.
★ TAROT CARD PULLED ★
The Hermit (Light Seer's Tarot) – Phoebe is introspective, seeking wisdom, following clues, and stepping back to see the bigger picture. The Hermit perfectly mirrors her journey through mystery, prophecy, and survival while she reflects on humanity’s decline.
The Final Shelter is available now. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
