Tis the season! O'Brien have released some beautiful new picture books, and I'm here to run through a few of them and give you some idea what they're like. Hint, these would make great presents!
Milo wants to climb the Mountain. He really does. But the Mountain is HUGE and Milo is scared. Can he ever reach the top? Yes, he can. With just a little help from his friends!
Jamie's first book is a triumph, with bright, bold colours and a great story. I love that Milo decides to climb it, gets himself all ready, and then - just doesn't! There's so many details in the art, children will love studying this and finding little secrets and easter eggs.
In the not-so-faraway land of Belfast city live Fluffy, Duffy and Scruffy, the three kid goats Gruff. One fine day, they decide to go to Botanic Gardens for a picnic. But will they get past the angry troll under the Albert Bridge and make it home in time for dinner?
The fifth in O'Brien's series of City Fairytales, this one re-imagines the Three Billy Goats Gruff and sets it in Belfast, featuring famous landmarks and settings. Mel's art is bright and colourful with lots of hidden details to spot - check out Daddy Gruff's record collection! This will sit beautifully next to the rest of the collection.
Since I was eleven years old, I’ve been obsessed with space and exploration and rockets. I wanted to go to space, and I did everything I could to make that happen. Come with me on a journey to the stars!
Dr Norah Patten is about to become the first Irish person in space. Here, she tells us all about her mission, all about space and the life of an astronaut: What is the solar system? How do astronauts travel to space? What do they eat up there? How do they go to the toilet?! Where will astronauts go next? And most importantly … how can you get there too?
Ireland has an astronaut! Norah's work in STEM and advancing Ireland's scientific community is fascinating. Kids will love learning about space, missions and the training Norah and her colleagues go through every day. The pictures and diagrams are amazing, going into every detail of life in space and the training to get there. This book will inspire a lot of children!
These three titles published on the 1st September, 2025. I received free copies and am giving honest reviews.
Poor Fraidy Dog is afraid of … everything!
To him, sofas are spooky, cupboards are creepy and houseplants are horrifying!
Will Fraidy ever learn to be brave?
This is such a cute story! I love that no one blames Fraidy for his feelings - he's afraid and that's ok, they help him learn to deal with it. The artwork is lovely, slightly comicy and really showing how things can scare Fraidy so easily. I love the terrifying clothes spilling out of the wardrobe - and the final page, showing that even brave people are afraid of some things!
This title released on the 9th of September. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
