Hi guys! Barry Shore has kindly agreed to give us a few tips on dealing with stress, something we all need at the moment! Read on for a little insight into his methods.

Hi Barry, welcome to the blog. Tell us a bit about yourself and about this new book?

Imagine standing up in the morning hael and hardy, able to leap tall buildings and that night in the hospital completely paralyzed. It was not from an auto accident or a spinal injury but a rare neurological disease which rendered me a quadriplegic. This happened in 2004 at the age of 55. Now I'm 72 chronologically (48 metabolically, 28 mentally, 8 SOW) and vertical and ambulatory with the help of a 7’ walking wand; though still not able to walk up a stair by myself or a curb and I have help 12 hours/day, 7 days/week. However You can “hear” my voice: positive, purposeful, powerful, and pleasant. As a result I am deemed the “Ambassador of JOY.” We have identified 11 Strategies that enable people to reduce and mitigate STRESS while being Happy, no matter the circumstances. The book is “The JOY of LIVING, How to Slay Stress and Be Happy.” These Strategies work. We have helped thousands of people learn to be their Best Selves: as we term it: become the Best YOU possible. My mission is to Teach the World the 3 Fundamentals of Living WELL:

1: Life has Purpose

2: GO M.A.D. (Make A Difference)

3: Uncover the power of everyday words and terms. Example: SMILE: Seeing Miracles In Life Everyday.

Obviously, everyone is quite stressed at the moment, do you have any tips for something we could be doing daily to calm and destress?

It’s important to recognize the Goal: the goal is not to eliminate every stressor (that would be impossible and impractical and in the end - frustrating and stressful), instead, the goal is to find ways to reduce, mitigate, and cope with stressors. Here are 3 Tips that have helped Thousand:

1: Breathe! Hey, I do that. Ah, but this is learning to Breathe Deeply as CLB: Conscious Loving Breaths. It's really diaphragmatic breathing but most people don’t know how to spell ‘diaphragm’ let alone where it is. 4 CLBs over 28-32 seconds will reduce most every STRESSFUL situation.

2: Become a JOY Generator! This takes about 55 seconds and is available for FREE on the website: www.barryshore.com. It’s a short video that shows the technique. Fast, Easy, and FUNN. Practice this daily (if necessary 2x/day) and see remarkably positive results.

3: SKIP. Yes, that wonderful intermediate step between walking and running! Skipping (preferably holding the hand of a loved one!) for 30-50 seconds at least once per day brings a SMILE to the Skipper as well as all those who observe.

Everyone WINS. Integrating all 3 of these will bring a major beneficial change to the practitioner.

What's the smallest thing you're most proud of? (ie not 'the charity I set up' but more 'the day I helped my neighbor move house' or something commonplace.)

The days I joined friends visiting ‘old age homes’ (now Nursing Homes) to sing and uplift aged residents.

As this is a book blog, what are you reading now?
