Meet a secret mermaid and a grumpy saint, a greedy prince and the magical foals that became a famous wave. Beware slippery, slidey monsters and lovestruck hags! In these stories, you will find adventure laced with humour and enchantment.
Perfect for reading aloud to little ones or for older children to read themselves, this beautifully illustrated book will bring you to a place where magic happens.
Stories inspired by the Cliffs of Moher from long, long ago. Legends include: The Mermaid of Moher, The Hag, The Lost City, The Magic Foals, The Giant Eel of Kilmacreehy.
O'Brien's series on myths and legends started with the stories every Irish child knows, but has increasingly had more unusual and unknown stories. The legends in this book come from the areas around the stunning Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's most popular tourist attractions, and I imagine it will sell very well there!
Eithne's chatty, easy story telling style fits these stories beautifully, but the real star, and I'm sure Eithne would agree, is Lisa Jackson's illustrations. Gentle enough for young listeners to look at, they capture the drama and beauty of the stories and the landscapes perfectly. I didn't know these stories before - at least, I knew there was a story about Aileen's Wave, but I didn't know the details, and I hadn't heard the others at all.
This would be a fabulous present, for yourself or for someone else, and it will stand beautifully alongside O'Brien's other titles - and, I hope, titles yet to come!
Legends of the Cliffs of Moher is available now. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
