OverEmotional by David Fenne

Sometimes, emotions can be a little too powerful . . .

Seventeen-year-old Steven has a big problem . . . Whenever he feels intense emotions, weird things happen. Like when he kissed a boy for the first time, and the boy's head literally exploded.

Fleeing to the miserable town of Grunsby-on-Sea, Steven is determined to not hurt anyone else - but he doesn't count on his best friend Freya, her boyfriend Marcus and American friend Troy following him. And when agents from the mysterious DEMA organisation show up talking about "neutralisation", Steven realises that Grunsby-on-Sea might not be the safe haven he'd hoped for . . .
The reviews all said this was a sweet, feel good story and they weren't lying! Although there is some romance here, it's gentle enough not to really be a feature. I love the humour, and the kids all have unique voices, which doesn't always happen in this kind of book.

I love the idea of this, too; it's a unique one that I haven't seen before, and David brings it to some surprising places. I saw a couple of twists coming, but there's a few that surprised me as I read! I don't want to give anything away as this is really a book that's best read unspoiled.

This is the first of a series, but it's not a cliffhanger ending, meaning that while you will want to read the next one, you won't be totally frustrated waiting! It's a great balance and one that a lot of books don't get right. I'm really looking forward to the next volume.

OverEmotional is available now. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
