Little Big Sister by Eoin Colfer and Celia Ivey

Little Big Sister
tells the story of Starr, a girl with dwarfism who lives with her mum and younger sister, Babs. As the girls get older and Babs overtakes Starr's height, Starr understands there is something different about her.

When Starr starts primary school she is at first upset by being shorter than the other children. But with help from her mum and teacher, Starr finds the courage to shine.

A fun and gentle story about disability, family and fitting in, told by a major children's author and illustrated by an artist with dwarfism.
Globally, about 1 in 10,000 people have one of the more than 300 conditions that cause dwarfism. Starr, the heroine of this wonderful book, is one of them. At first it didn't really matter to her, but now that she's reached the age where her classmates and even her younger sister are growing taller than her, she's starting to feel left out and as though nothing in the world will ever be right again.

I'm aware of dwarfism, of course, but I had never given much thought to the day to day issues people can face. Celia's illustrations really bring it to life, showing the accomadations Starr's family and school make for her and the difficulties she can find in other places. The illustrations are amazing, full of life and colour, so wonderful and clever. Eoin's prose, as always, is heartrending and brilliant! This is a great pairing.

I love this book and I can't wait to start selling it to people.

Little Big Sister publishes on the 1st of June, 2023. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
