Using their newly awakened Spooksmith skills, Indigo and Rusty set out to enlist the help of other ghosts. But can the Blasted Banshee and Chuckles the Phantom Toddler really help them find the Cinderman's true name and put him in his grave for good before Ashmageddon strikes?
Spooksmiths Investigate: The Cinderman is a delightfully spooky adventure filled with humour and a good dose of tension. Indigo and Rusty’s partnership stands out in that both characters take turns being smart, brave, and figuring things out—there's no clear-cut "leader" or "sidekick," which makes their dynamic so much fun to read. Their shared moments of problem-solving and split-second decision-making give the book a fast pace, while the ghostly cast of characters provides plenty of humour and eerie moments. There's room for plenty more books featuring these amazing characters.
The story is perfectly balanced between scares and wit, making it great for younger readers dipping their toes into spooky territory. Atkinson’s vivid descriptions of the town in peril, alongside the imaginative and creepy ash monster, keeps the tension high throughout.
The conclusion is satisfying, and readers will likely be eager for more Spooksmith adventures. With its fun, eerie atmosphere and strong message of teamwork, this book is a winner.
