I'm still pretty new to the whole MBS genre, but I have always loved crystals; apart from being pretty and nice to handle, I'm fascinated by the different uses they have. It's tough to remember all of them, but luckily there are brilliant resources like this wonderful deck to help. The cards and book combine reiki and chakras with 55 beautiful crystals in an easy to follow format that anyone can use to get some guidance for their day.
The book starts with some general information about crystals, chakras and reiki, and a guide to the deck itself. There are some suggested spreads to use with the cards; I'm generally a one-card-draw girl, but some of these look really interesting and I'm looking forward to trying them out!
Then we're into the card descriptions.
The deck is split into several sections; first there are five Reiki Precept cards, then four Affirmations. Next there are six cards for each of the seven chakras, and finally four all-chakra cards. Each card has two pages in the book, with a small image of the crystal, an explanation of its meaning, a quick vibe fix and a longer ritual, depending on your needs. Almost all the fixes and rituals can be done with just the cards, so there's no need to shell out for crystals as well - although I certainly plan to pick up some of these!
The cards themselves are a little larger than tarot cards; I can shuffle them on the length, but the width is a bit much for me. They have a glossy feel, and the beautiful design on the back - not reversible, but the cards aren't designed for reversals anyway - is very slightly embossed, just enough to feel.
The images on the cards are almost all raw crystals, not tumble stones. It gives them a wonderful sense of energy and power, perceptible even through the picture.
Each card has a header to say if it's a percept, a chakra and so on, as well as its number in the deck and the name of the crystal above the image. Below is a word or short sentence to help us remember what the card stands for. The frame is coloured depending on what part of the deck it's from, as an extra reminder.
I haven't been working with these cards for long, but I've found that just holding them, leafing through them and studying the images, is meditative all on its own even without looking further at the meanings. This is a wonderfully positive deck, it's all about healing and repairing and it would be fantastic for that kind of work. I'm really enjoying working with it and hope to continue for a long time.
