H.A.W.K.S by M.A. Bennett

The gripping final instalment in the twisting series that will have fans of One of Us is Lying and Pretty Little Liars hooked.

Determined to crush the Order of the Stag once and for all, and in a desperate last throw of the dice, Greer walks willingly into the lion's den by accepting a sinister invitation to Castle MacLeod, a Scottish stately home in the Isle of Skye.

Greer will be aided and kept safe by Shafeen and Nel, and the enigmatic Abbot Ridley. Plus, of course, Henry de Warlencourt who will accompany her and insists he has changed his colours. But as their darkly fraught romance evolves, can Greer trust him as she places her life in his hands?

A deadly and shocking finale that will have readers on the edge of their seats.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME, MA BENNETT? FIVE BOOKS AND THAT'S HOW YOU'RE ENDING THINGS? IT IS...exactly the way I often end things in fanfic, so I can't really argue, but wow.

This is the fifth book in the series, and it's not the one to start with. Bennett is good at reminding us about important things, but you really want to have read the others before you start this one. Luckily, they're all fantastic, and once you start the first one you won't want to stop.

I don't want to give away too much, but there are a lot of great twists. I saw one coming so clearly I'm not sure it was actually meant to be a secret, but some of the others were genuinely surprising. Also, although most things were sorted out by the end, it does end on a massive question - literally, there's a The End - or is it? at the end of the author's notes - so I have hope that it might be picked up another time, or Bennett may turn to unrelated stories like The Island. Whatever she writes, I'll be here to read it.

HAWKS publishes on the 7th of July, 2022. I received a free copy and am giving an honest review.
