Where are you, Puffling? Board book by Erika McGann and Gerry Daly

A puffling has gone in search of adventure - now her puffin parents can't find her anywhere!

They talk to the seal and the gannet and the rabbit; they walk to the huts and the cliffs and the cove. They hear lots of stories of the puffling helping others, but they just cannot find their fluffy, black chick.

Finally, they spot her - on a boat out at sea!

The puffling is too small to fly home, so the animals of Skellig work together and come up with something very clever...

The puffling books are some of the sweetest books of recent years. Set on the wild Skellig islands, Puffling and her friends explore the rich animal and plant life there. Now toddlers can join in with this sturdy board book edition.

It doesn't feature the full story from the picture book, but there's the added fun of trying to spot Puffling in the background...she's not on every spread (or I'm just terrible at spotting her!) but she's on enough to keep children interested, and there's plenty of other animals and plants to talk about as well. The essence of the story, the animals working together to save Puffling, is still very much there and the pictures are every bit as arresting in this version as they are in the 'full' one. The words have been simplified a little and the pictures adjusted slightly to allow for the squarer shape, but nothing is missing here.

These would be a great set to give to siblings, or one for now and one for later for the same child. Now, O'Brien, where are we on that Puffling toy?
