The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings

The Sad Ghost Club

Ever felt anxious or alone? Like you don't belong anywhere? Like you're almost... invisible? Find your kindred spirits at The Sad Ghost Club.

This is the story of one of those days - a day so bad you can barely get out of bed, when it's a struggle to leave the house, and when you do, you wish you hadn't. But even the worst of days can surprise you. When one sad ghost, lost and alone at a crowded party, spies another sad ghost across the room, they decide to leave together. What happens next changes everything. Because that night they start the The Sad Ghost Club - a secret society for the anxious and alone, a club for people who think they don't belong.

For fans of Heartstopper and Jennifer Niven, and for anyone who's ever felt invisible. You are not alone. Shhh. Pass it on.

This graphic novel is a fantastic read. Heartfelt, gentle, and capturing exactly that feeling that we've all had at one time or another (more and more often lately for a lot of people): that nothing matters, there's no point, and it's too much effort even to try.

Our two characters have different opinions about almost everything, but ... spoiler! ... they're ALLOWED to have different opinions about almost everything. Neither one is talked around to the other's point of view; they just accept it and move on. It's refreshing to see them being allowed to keep their individuality.

I loved the illustration style, gentle and soft while still showing us everything we needed to know. I'll be coming back to this book just to enjoy the pictures. (Warning; my proof copy did not render properly in Kindle, but I'm sure that will be fixed for the official release.)

This is a book that everyone should read, no matter how long ago your teen years were. It'll have something to say to you.

The Sad Ghost Club publishes on the 21st January, 2021.
