P is for Poetry ed by Seamus Cashman

Selected poems from bestselling Something Beginning with P in a beautiful new format edition.

Originally published in 2004, the award-winning Something Beginning with P was a collection of new poems for children including poems from leading Irish poets such as Seamus Heaney, Paula Meehan, Rita Ann Higgins, Nuala nĂ Dhomhnaill, Frank McGuinness and Peter Fallon.

This new, specially curated, edition of P is for Poetry includes best-loved poems and poets taken from the original collection as well as new additions that are sure to become beloved new favourites.

Something Beginning with P was a bestseller a few years ago. This new paperback version is sure to be as well. The mix of poetry is brilliant and the illustrations are amazing.

A few of the poems are in Irish (don't worry, translations are provided at the back) and they cover a huge range of topics, not always happy. I lingered for a while over a poem about an older woman moving into an old folks' home; the accompanying image, an old hand holding a younger one, is stark in its simplicity. But there are plenty of fun poems as well. On some the text twists and bends in strange ways, making for a very interactive experience.

The smaller size and paperback format means this will be great for sending as a gift. All in all, a wonderful package.

P is for Poetry publishes on the 5th October, 2020.
